Torch Awards

Qualifying Standards

In order to participate in the BPA Torch Awards Program, a person must:

​

  1. Be enrolled in a secondary school pargram

  2. Be a member in good standing of a secondary chapter of BPA

  3. ​

Active participation in the Torch Awards Program at the four levels is measured by the following point system in each division:

​

Local (Executive) 10 points                            State (Statesman) 50 points

Regional (Diplomat) 30 points                       National (Ambassador) 70 points

​

Leadership

10 pts: Serve as class officer, student council officer

  5 pts: Sevice as local chapter officer, reginional officer, state officer, or national office

10 pts: Campaign as regional, state, or national officer candidate

  5 pts: Serve as voting delegate at a regional, state, or national leadership conference

  5 pts: Particpate in the Fall Leadership Conference

Service

10 pts: Write a BPA article in the city newspaper (specify topic, paper, publication date)

10 pts: Particpate in a local chapter community or school service project (identify the involvement and                    project)

  5 pts: Participate in a non-BPa community or school sponsored service project

20 pts: Visit a school other than yours and exchange ideas with another student organization (ie, BECA,                  FFA)(identify the school, topic, organization)

20 pts: Participate in a BPA service project

Cooperation

  5 pts: Member of another school or church related organization at present time

10 pts: Participate in publishing a chapter newsletter or website

  5 pts: Participate in a local chapter fund-raising project

10 pts: Participate in a region, state, or nationally sponsored project (identify the involvement and project)

​

Knowledge

10 pts: Recite the BPA pledge by memory on a one-to-one basis (identify to whom presented and                          circumstance)

10 pts: Attend a parliamentary procedure workshop; does not need to be presented by BPA (identify                      workshop, presenter, circumstance)

20 pts: Participate as a member on a BPA Small Business Management contest team (identify the                          involvement)

  5 pts: Conduct a job serch using the Internet (identify two companies about about which you received                   info)

Friendship

  5 pts: Participate in a BPa orientation activity for new members or the student body.

  5 pts: Attend an official BPA local chapter meeting

  5 pts: Attend an official BPA local chapter social function

10 pts: Attend a BPA Region Leadership Conference

15 pts: Attend a BPA State Leadership Conference

20 pts: Attend a BPA National Leadership Conference

  5 pts: Attend a function of a different school or organization; does not need to be BPA related

10 pts: Participate in a BPA recognition activity for school personnel (identify involvement and activity)

Love, Hope, Faith

10 pts: Participate in a BPA local chapter charity drive

10 pts: Participate in a community service project; does not need to be BPA related

​

Patriotism

10 pts: Attend a school board meeting

10 pts: Attend city council meeting

10 pts: Participate in an individual entrepreneurship project

  5 pts: Visit art or natural history museum

10 pts: Attend a county or state fair and tour educational exhibits for min. 1 hour (identify the fair and                  exhibits viewed)

15 pts: Exhibit something at the county or state fair (identify fair and exhibit item)
